B.Sc. (Hons) Botany (1978), M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D from the University of Delhi, Delhi. Also done a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, New Delhi and General Course on Intellectual Property from World Intellectual Property Organization, Geneva.
Joined the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in 1982, Dr. N.C. Jain is currently Assistant Editor of the Indian Journal of Medical Research and Deputy Director-General in the Scientometrics Unit, Division of Publication & Information, ICMR, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi 110029, India. Has been the Secretary of the Indian Science Writers Association, New Delhi for four years (1993 April - 1997 March) and Joint Secretary of the Society for Information Science, New Delhi for two years (1995 April ? 1997 March). Member of various professional societies like World Association of Medical Editors, European Association of Science Editors, Indian Science Writers Association, Society for Information Science, Indian Science Congress Association etc. Attended and presented papers in COLLNET 2 (New Delhi, India; February 2001) and COLLNET 7 (Nancy, France; May 2006), among others.

Mapping science, especially medical research in India; Relevance of medical research carried out in India; International collaboration in science; S&T journals, especially from developing countries in various global indexing and abstracting services; Improving information access in developing countries.
