William W. Hood
Education and Position:
Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) - Honours (University of Sydney); Master of Librarianship and Ph.D. (University of New South Wales, Australia); and Diploma of BibStud (MTC, Australia).
Scientist, Lecturer
Conference Board Member, 8th International Conference on Scientometrics and Informetrics, Sydney 2001, Australia
Area of Research:
He has recently completed doctoral research on the literature of Fuzzy Set Theory. During this research, he gathered a large set of documents from over 100 different databases. He developed a sophisticated duplicate document detection program that is superior to those used by DIALOG for eliminating duplicates. He found that the distributions of documents in databases partially conform to a Bradford distribution, but not to the same extent as the distribution of articles in journals. He is involved in several projects, including the vision sciences project, with his colleagues at UNSW.
